● Glass containers for pharmaceutical use are intended to come into direct contact with pharmaceutical preparations. The hydrolytic stability of them refers to their resistance to the release of soluble minerals into water under specified conditions when the inner surface of the container or glass particles comes into contact with water. The hydrolytic resistance is evaluated by titrating the alkali released during the process.
● Type III Glass: Soda-lime glass with only moderate hydrolytic resistance (used exclusively for molded glass bottles). Some manufacturers employ amber glass tubes to produce containers for oral liquid formulations. This type is generally suitable for non-aqueous parenteral preparations, parenteral powders (excluding lyophilized preparations), and non-parenteral preparations.
